The Ignatius Old-Growth Forest Project, an initiative of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre is situated just beyond the northern edge of the City of Guelph. This 93-acre nature sanctuary of trails, forests, meadows, wetlands and waterways is protected by a Conservation Easement with Ontario Farmland Trust. It is the Project’s goal, with the help of local students and community volunteers to restore and protect these diverse ecological communities and to assist the regeneration of retired farmland, from old-field meadow to old-growth forest. The Restoration Assistant provides ongoing support to the OGF Project Manager in the day to day maintenance of trails, restoration projects and group programming. KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Trail maintenance and site preparation; pruning, mowing and weed trimming
  • Tree care; mulching, watering and removing rodent guards
  • Invasive plant removal
  • Supervising small groups with restoration activities
  • Assisting with filming, documentation and monitoring of restoration activities


  • Willing and able to do physically demanding work in varied weather conditions
  • Ability to work independently and with groups
  • Valid ‘G’ Class Driver’s License
  • Experience in horticulture, landscaping or ecological restoration
  • Experience operating power tools and machinery
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends
  • Safe Chainsaw Operation certificate an asset
  • Valid First Aid/CPR an asset
