10C Shared Space (10C) is currently seeking two (2) Community Animators to join the team this summer. The Community Animators will work to support the re-building and re-activation of the 10C spaces post-COVID. This role is embedded within the 10C staff team and features responsibilities that celebrate deep connection and engagement with the Guelph community. In this role, you will support daily and special events to come to life, develop your logistics skills, digital and communication skills. 10C is committed to learning, equity and building a diverse community in which everyone has the opportunity to thrive. About 10C: 10C is the hub for community changemakers in Guelph-Wellington. We are a not-for-profit social enterprise working to create platforms (physical, virtual, networks and financial) for those working across sectors and engaging in collaborative environmental, social community development work to improve our community. 10C uses placemaking, social enterprise, social finance, social innovation - and food - to create new ways to connect, collaborate and share resources. With approximately 200 members working across all social change sectors, 10C and its members play a strong role in building on our region’s reputation as a leader in sustainability, innovation and vibrant community engagement. In addition to our downtown space, 10C programming revolves around Community Engagement, Sustainable Development Goals, Social Finance, Social Enterprise, and Sustainable Food Systems. These priorities are addressed through internal programs and support for members, as well as in our contributions and placemaking across the sector. 10C’s main activities are mobilizing teams, creating programs, and using collaborative funding and financing structures to address local socio-economic and environmental issues. Today, 10C activates 25,000 s.f. of real estate for social purposes, such as the 10C community hub on Carden Street, which is home to the Nourish shared community commercial kitchen, an art gallery, and urban agriculture projects. In 2022, 10C is activating the Guelph Farmers' Market with a goal of wider cultural connection.

● The position duration is 8 weeks and the start date is July 4, 2022 (with some flexibility possible).




Responsibilities of the Community Animator will include: ● Site Activation: ○ Support the day-to-day operations of the 10C spaces ○ Create special events plans, use and develop event planning tools, and promote and engage participants with Eventbrite and other online platforms ○ Contribute to the smooth running of on-site operations including member and community access and ensuring spaces are functional and set-up ○ Host, welcome and assist people when entering and leaving ○ Help with site set-up and take down for community events according to needs, while troubleshooting as needed ○ Optional tasks could include some basic construction (i.e. painting, tiling), as part of refreshing of spaces, pre- and post- special events ● Administrative Support: ○ Attend 10C team meetings, offer support and collaboration on projects and special events ○ Collaborate with 10C team to manage mail, phone system and ongoing public messaging ○ Use online scheduling tool and digital door lock system for smooth operations of daily uses and special events ○ Use clear and effective communication skills and channels for collaboration, documentation of communications in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system ● Other tasks and responsibilities: ○ In this role and in consultation with their supervisor, the Community Animator will have the opportunity to take on tasks and responsibilities in line with their individual interests.


The Community Animator will bring these experiences and abilities to the role: ● Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team ● Exceptional communication skills and a dedication to growing these ● Basic comfort and familiarity with software programs like Google Workspace and Eventbrite ● Dedicated to community building, creating equitable and dynamic public spaces ● Excellent people skills, creative and curious ● Community Animators will be required to use their own computer for this role.

● Eligibility: Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and meet eligibility criteria for the 2022 Canada Summer Jobs program. Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in or have completed a post-secondary program with a focus on: sustainability, urban planning, horticulture, environmental studies, food studies, etc. Students in other fields and high school students with related interests and experience are also encouraged to apply. ● The work location is onsite at 10C Shared Space in Guelph with some time spent at the Guelph Farmers’ Market (so long as public health measures allow).
