We are a not-for-profit social enterprise working to create platforms (physical, virtual, networks and financial) for those working across sectors and engaging in collaborative environmental, social community development work to improve our community. 10C uses placemaking, social enterprise, social finance, social innovation - and food - to create new ways to connect, collaborate and share resources. With approximately 200 members working across all social change sectors, 10C and its members play a strong role in building on our region’s reputation as a leader in sustainability, innovation and vibrant community engagement. In addition to our downtown space, 10C programming revolves around Community Engagement, Sustainable Development Goals, Social Finance, Social Enterprise, and Sustainable Food Systems. These priorities are addressed through internal programs and support for members, as well as in our contributions and placemaking across the sector. 10C’s main activities are mobilizing teams, creating programs, and using collaborative funding and financing structures to address local socio-economic and environmental issues. Today, 10C activates 25,000 s.f. of real estate for social purposes, such as the 10C community hub on Carden Street, which is home to the Nourish shared community commercial kitchen, an art gallery, and urban agriculture projects. In 2022, 10C is activating the Guelph Farmers' Market with a goal of wider cultural connection.

Hours:

The work location is onsite at 10C Shared Space (so long as public health measures allow) at 42 Carden Street, Guelph

Compensation:

This is a part-time role based on 30 hours/week at $18.10/hour (Ontario living wage for Guelph-Wellington).


Duties:

Responsibilities of the Communications Assistant will include: ● Member and Partner Profiles- In close collaboration with the 10C staff team, the Communications Assistant will get to know the 10C member community to develop engaging stories through digital media. These tasks will include: ○ Work with 10C staff team to identify and prioritize member list ○ Communicate and collaborate with individual members to understand and document their stories ○ Use digital media (blog, newsletter, social media) to curate and share member story content including written content, photos and videos ● 10C Projects and Programs - Working closely with other members of the 10C team, the Communications Assistant will identify areas and types of communications support needed. ○ Promote arts and cultural events, including bi-weekly visual arts in 10C’s street front gallery ○ Support the development of engaging presentations and reports with your design skills across a variety of platforms ○ Curate and share project/program content through digital media channels (i.e. event promotions, project profiles, resource sharing) ○ Create and schedule content for social media using graphic design and scheduling programs ● Technical Support - Building upon their technology skills, the Communications Assistant will support the 10C team in all tech systems including those that manage data and member or public-facing tech tools. This is an opportunity to learn new platforms, explore integrations of various tools and support 10C in better using technology Other tasks and responsibilities: ○ In this role and in consultation with their supervisor, the Community Animator will have the opportunity to take on tasks and responsibilities in line with their individual interests. Skills:

he Communications Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role: ● Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team ● Exceptional communication skills with experience in social media campaigns, story-telling and/or copywriting ● Comfort and familiarity with software programs like Google Workspace, Later ,Mail Chimp basic design skills using Canva and/or Adobe Suite an asset ● Experience creating content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and/or other networks ● Attention to detail and a commitment to getting it right ● Dedicated to community building, creating equitable and dynamic public spaces and conversations ● Creativity and curiosity

Notes:

As part of 10C’s post-Covid re-engagement strategy, the Communications Assistants will use digital media and databases to create, curate and share the story of 10C, its members, community partners, and our projects and programs - widely in our community. This communications work will also include new outdoor food, arts and cultural events taking place at the Guelph Farmers’ Market, being activated by 10C in 2022. This is an excellent role to develop your professional storytelling abilities, working with a variety of community members, within a supportive and creative team environment. Eligibility: Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and meet eligibility criteria for the 2022 Canada Summer Jobs program. Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in or have completed a post-secondary program with a focus on: sustainability, urban planning, horticulture, environmental studies, food studies, etc. Students in other fields and high school students with related interests and experience are also encouraged to apply.
