Company Description:

L.H Gray & Son is one of the largest egg producer’s, processors and distributors of eggs throughout Canada. We purchase eggs from producers and then wash, grade, package and deliver them to grocery stores throughout Canada. We supply eggs for retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Loblaw and Tim Hortons. In addition to purchasing eggs from farmers we also operate our own farms which is where the position we are looking to hire is for. Our farm is located in Moorefield, about 40 minutes North West of Guelph.

The farm is a 24/7 operation and as such requires that staff are on site every day of the week. Applicants are required to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday). One consistent day off is scheduled every week to account for this (for example every Thursday is scheduled off).


$19.35 per hour. A raise of $1.00 per hour will be issued after the successful completion of 480 hours of service, to $20.35 per hour. Benefits begin after 480 hours as well.


This position is responsible for the care of a barn of layers ensuring maximum health, meeting body weight goals and other indicators of healthy production. Daily monitoring of the barn in order to: 1. Monitor, record and interpret water metre readings 2. Monitor, record and interpret feed and feed inventory 3. Inspect ventilation equipment 4. Check for and remove any mortality 5. Utilize egg packing machine to pack eggs onto fibre trays and store in the cooler room. 6. Maintain barn to On Farm Food Safety and Animal Care Program Standards 7. Operate manure removal system 8. All other duties assigned by Sector Supervisor.


Education and Skills • Competent English (written and verbal) and basic mathematical skills • Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision. • Able to adapt to changes and open to learning new ways to get things done more efficiently and effectively. • Able to work in a fast pace environment, thinking and reacting quickly, and making fast yet accurate decisions. • Ability to complete inventory, daily logs, charts and reports. To become competent in this position, approximately four weeks of on-the-job training would be required to learn the basic requirements of the job, as well as additional working experience learning all aspects of this job.
